Split, Croatia

Diocletian Palace's Peristyle
Split is home to Diocletian's Palace, the best preserved Roman palace in the world. It was  built in 305 AD for Roman Emperor Diocletian retirement residence. Centuries after the Romans abandoned the palace, nearby residents built home within the palaces walls. Today homes and businesses reside within the walls. Still Standing with in the walls is the Temple of Jupiter, the Palace's peristyle, and 3500 year old granite Egyptian sphinxes.

Split is a great city to start your Croatian vacation. It has a beautiful promenade along the Adriatic Sea.I flew directly from London to Split. I spent 2 days in Split before driving to Plitvice Lakes National Park.
